Welcome

The Sheffield West PBC Consortium LLP was formed in response to the developing government agenda which is driving changes in commissioning of services within the NHS.

After the consolidation of the four former Sheffield PCTs into a single PCT, the GP practices in Sheffield were encouraged to form consortia of practices to engage in the new Practice Based Commissioning process.

The West PBC consortium is comprised of 16 practices who were within the aegis of the Sheffield West Primary Care group and the Sheffield West Primary Care Trust. Thus there is a history of collaborative working in this group of practices which dates back to 1997.

The sixteen constituent practices are responsible for the delivery of primary care in the west of the city in an area covered largely by the S6, S3, S10, S30 & S35 postal codes plus much of the City Centre and extending up the Don
Valley to Stocksbridge.

The registered population in the area is approximately 145,000, including approximately 35,000 students who attend both University General Practices.

West contains 51.5% of Sheffields population aged 20-24.

Following a number of organisational development meetings, the Consortium agreed to pursue status of a Limited Liability Partnership. The LLP was incorporated in March 2008 and is the first legally constituted consortium in the City.
